What is Composite Cedar?

Also known as synthetic cedar, it replicates the timeless beauty of natural cedar while offering greater durability, sustainability, and affordability. Made from recycled materials, our Brava composite cedar provides the same stunning appearance as traditional cedar but lasts longer and requires significantly less maintenance. We believe Brava composite cedar is the best choice for homeowners seeking both aesthetic appeal and long-term value.

Eco-Friendly

Crafted from recycled materials, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional roofing. While natural cedar is a renewable resource, it’s important to recognize that composite cedar is made from recycled content, providing an alternative eco-conscious option with enhanced durability.

Cedar Shake Designs

Composite cedar is more customizable than it's natural counterpart because it's not limited by natural resources and does not wither over time. Composite cedar's recycled materials and infused minerals are beautifully tailored by designers. If you book an appointment with us we can bring you real composite cedar samples to look at in person.

Aged Cedar

Aged Cedar is a coveted material, but takes hundreds of years to grow. Thankfully, we’ve been able to channel the rich, deep shades present in old-growth cedar and make them even more accessible.

Aspen

Aspen Shake features muted brown-gray tones, channeling the natural environment of the Aspen tree: cool, crisp, and calming.

Canyon Gray

Canyon Gray is the perfect balance of dark and light. With a gray base, and deeper brown and black tones entwined throughout, the result is a unique blend fitting for a calming coastal cottage.

Lake Forest

Lake Forest Shake was created by matching the colors of a natural cedar. It is the perfect backdrop against the lush greens of lakeside trees and the deep blue-greens of the water.

Natural Cedar

With this combination of lighter browns and charcoal, Natural Cedar speaks for itself, bringing the beauty of nature straight to your home. Note: Premium Blend and Title 24 Cool Roof Colors are available as an upcharge from Standard Color pricing. Please consult your sales representative for additional information.

Weathered

Weathered Cedar brings you the sought-after look of cedar that has begun to weather and reveal a new layer beneath, without the negatives of leaving it exposed to the elements.

Recycled Materials

Backed by a 50-year transferable warranty, Brava products are more durable and will outlast asphalt, coated roof coverings, and natural cedar shakes. No natural resources need to be mined and any scraps from installation can be recycled yet again into new material. What’s more, our composite shakes have a lower carbon footprint than traditional asphalt shingles.

Composite Cedar Shake Costs

- A COST-EFFECTIVE ALTERNATIVE

On average, the upfront cost of composite cedar is $14 to $18 per square foot which is slightly more expensive than natural cedar. However, it’s essential to weigh upfront costs, long-term expenses, and quality. Natural cedar shakes often require substantial upkeep, with yearly maintenance costs ranging from $500 to $1,000. In contrast, Brava shingles are virtually maintenance-free, backed by a 50-year warranty, offering peace of mind and reducing overall costs over time.

Though Brava shingles are a premium product, with total costs (materials and installation) approximately double that of architectural asphalt shingles, its exceptional durability and low maintenance make it a more cost-effective choice over its lifespan. Additionally, Brava’s composite cedar replicates the natural beauty of cedar but is often considered more visually appealing due to its consistency in color, texture, and resistance to aging imperfections. For homeowners seeking stunning aesthetics, long-lasting quality, and savings, Brava is an excellent investment.

Composite Cedar Vs. Natural Cedar

Although we are also certified installers of natural cedar, we like to provide beautiful and affordable alternative solutions. Aside from aesthetic appeal and affordability, we’ve found that, Brava cedar is an excellent alternative for a few reasons:
